    QuickBooks 2009 R9 and Counting

    The Saga Continues

    2009.1218
As you are probably aware by now, Intuit recently made QuickBooks 2009 R9 available. This release was to include certain enhancements and significant changes. Shortly thereafter, Intuit realized that R9 implementation broke Sales Tax reporting and notified everyone of the impending arrival of R10 to rectify the problem.

Well, it appears Intuit was a little overly optimistic -- but they realize the seriousness of the issue and have tried to minimize the problems for QuickBooks 2009 users. Since they believe the Sales Tax Liability Report is the report most often used to file sales tax returns, they have given this their highest priority and R10 fixes this report. R10 has been moved to Automatic Update status.

R11 will follow soon. The release will address both the Sales Tax Liability Report and the Sales Tax Revenue Summary Report.

    What You Need to Remember

    • CRITICAL: Make sure you get the R10 update now to correct the R9 problems.
    • CRITICAL: Make sure you get the R11 update as soon as it is available.
    • QuickBooks 2009 R9 fixes an ActiveX security problem for users of QuickBooks 2009, 2008, and 2007 (QuickBooks 2006 is no longer supported; the fix is not required for QuickBooks 2010)
    • QuickBooks 2009 R9 IS NOT BACKWARDS COMPATIBLE -- EVEN WITHIN THE SAME PRODUCT (however, the Accountant's copy IS backwards compatible for 2009 and 2008 versions)
    • CRITICAL: Whether you update from R8 in sequence or not, only the first update from R8 will also require a server update. After that, further updates will proceed as usual.
