This article specifically addresses connecting an iPod to your
wireless network, but the suggested solutions are not limited to the
iPod. In fact, the solution I found for the iPod actually worked on a
Wii as well. Let me explain:
I was recently tasked with connecting an iPod to the Internet via my
wireless network. I configured the iPod for my wireless network and was
very quickly connected. No matter what I tried, however, I could not
access the Internet -- even though the networked computers were having
no problems.
I finally found the solution at
http://forums.linksysbycisco.com/linksys/board/message?board.id=Wireless_Routers&thread.id=74127&view=by_date_ascending&page=6.
I changed the DNS settings on the iPod to "208.67.222.222,208.67.220.220"
(without the quotes) and Voila! it connected!
After having a "warm feeling in a dark suit moment" (you know, the one
nobody but you notices (grin)), I realized that the iPod problem was
extremely similar to the problem I had yet to solve concerning a Wii. I
booted up the Wii, changed the DNS settings, and Voila! it connected!
My search engine results indicates this type of problem affects a large
number of users, many of whom may not have found an answer. For me,
the Wii site was no help, and neither was the Apple iPod site (although in
fairness to Apple I found the answer before going to the Mac forum listed
in my search results). As for Wii, a call to support was totally useless;
the support person insisted the Wii had to be in the same room as my
wireless router (something I absolutely knew to be incorrect, since I know
other Wii owners who have had no problem connecting to the Internet).
You are solely responsible for the use or misuse of the above
information, but
this is
not the first time the Linksys forum has been helpful; my thanks to
the Linksys posters. I hope this web article helps someone else who has
yet to find
their solution.
