    Remove Companies in QuickBooks List

    2011.0222 (Updated 2012.0128)
Are there companies displayed in the QuickBooks "No Company Open" list that you would like to remove? It's easy. Here's how:

    1. Open a company file you want to remain in the list.
    2. Select Open Previous Company from the File menu.
    3. Select "Set number of previous companies..." and choose the number of companies you want QuickBooks to display in the list. Depending on your version of QuickBooks, the minimum setting is either 0 (zero) or 1 (one).
    4. In turn, open each QuickBooks company you want to appear in the list.
When you are finished, the unwanted companies will no longer appear in the list. Be aware, however, that if you open a company not in your preferred list, this company will replace one of your preferred entries. The only way to return your list to its preferred state is to repeat the last step above.

    Update 2012.0128
QuickBooks 2012 Pro & higher editions now have a new way to remove unwanted companies:
    1. Close the open company.
    2. Find "Edit List" in the No Company Open window.
    3. In the Edit Company List window, click to select the company or companies you want to hide.
    4. Click OK to close the window.
That's it. The first process still works, but I think you will agree the latter process is much quicker.
